CARES grant to fund offerings aimed at reducing stress, anxiety and depression

The Ohio State University has received new state grant funding from the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES) to create and expand programming to help undergraduate and graduate students cope with stress, anxiety, depression and burnout associated with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared 2020 the Year of the Nurse and Midwife in honor of the 200th birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. Nightingale became the first female member of the Royal Statistical Society because of her ability to use data to create new standards for sanitation in the army and beyond, thereby decreasing the death rate.

COLUMBUS, OH — The Ohio State University College of Nursing set a college record for external funding received for research by its faculty from a range of national organizations that strive to improve healthcare.

Throughout fiscal year 2020, 135 total funding proposals were submitted to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), American Cancer Society, Human Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and other external funding groups. Eighty-seven grants were awarded, totaling nearly $13 million in research funding.
