RN to BSN FAQs

Does the program have a clinical component?

The program has projects that utilize clinical knowledge. They can be done from your location.

Do I pay more as an out of state student?

The additional fee for being an out of state online student is $200 each semester.

Can I change the program of study to slow it down or modify the order of classes in the core Nursing Advancement curriculum?

Yes, but you must obtain approval from RN to BSN program to do so. You can contact your academic advisor for the Curriculum Petition form to request a change. Otherwise, you will be expected to follow your full-time or part-time program of study.

What is the difference between Path2BSN and RN to BSN?

The Path2BSN option is a way to enter the RN to BSN program. It is not a separate program. Path2BSN students are students that are currently enrolled or have graduated within the past year from one of our Central Ohio partner school’s nursing programs. Students that have completed an RN program at any other schools, will pursue the RN to BSN program.

What prerequisite courses are required for admission?

The RN to BSN program no longer requires prerequisite courses for admission. Core science and social science classes such as Chemistry, Anatomy, Physiology, etc. are still required to graduate with your BSN, but are considered part of the program’s general education requirements and can be completed prior to the program or during it.

How do I know which General Education courses I need and which ones to take at my current institution?

You can find the general education course requirements for the RN to BSN program here. The College of Nursing will not review your unofficial transcripts prior to admission. Ohio State’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions can help you determine how non-nursing courses transfer and if they will fulfill general education requirements.

If I live in a US state outside of Ohio or outside of the US, am I eligible to apply?

Students must reside in the US to attend the RN to BSN program. US students must also reside in a state where Ohio State is authorized to offer distance learning nursing programs. You can find a map of the states in which we are authorized here.

I work for Ohio State, will this program qualify me for tuition assistance?

Possibly. Ohio State offers a Tuition Assistance program for employees, which you can learn more about here. Eligibility is based on your employment status. You should consult with your Human Resources representative if you have questions about the Employee Tuition Assistance Program.
