Research Laboratories
The College of Nursing houses three biological laboratories located on Newton Hall's lower level; two Biosafety Level II (BSL2) laboratories certified by Ohio State Environmental Health and Safety and one BSL1 lab. These labs are staffed by full-time life science and biomedical research assistants who are available for faculty and student consults regarding development of research aims and assay techniques. The laboratories are equipped to perform a wide variety of molecular biology, protein biology, tissue culture, cell stimulation, immunostaining, and microbiology techniques with the goal of understanding complex diseases to improve patient care outcomes.
Director of Biomedical Research
Dr. Amy Mackos is a PhD-trained scientist with over 20 years of experience in biological research. Her research focuses on understanding how psychological stressors impact health with an emphasis on the microbiota-gut-brain axis. She has extensive training in a variety of molecular biology-based techniques including genetic and protein biomarker identification. Her vast expertise and extensive collaborative network are germane for pre and post award consultations regarding project design and implementation for our researchers.
