Federal grant program designed to increase number of faculty available to teach future nurses
The Ohio State University College of Nursing today opened the application for the Nursing Faculty Loan Program (NFLP) for nursing doctoral students interested in making a difference in the education of future generations of nurses.

Partnership honored for mixed-media campaign designed to help people save their lives
The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) honored a broad partnership led by The Ohio State University Office of the Chief Wellness Officer and the College of Nursing with a 2020 Circle of Excellence Gold award for last fall’s O-Heart-I-O heart health campaign.
A continuing NIH T32 training grant awarded to The Ohio State University College of Nursing from the National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Nursing Research (NIH/NINR) will support the training of pre-doctoral students studying health development across the life course. PhD students in nursing will conduct research while working closely with 24 faculty from nursing, sociology, emergency medicine and pediatric medicine.
Tool aims to address gaps and help incorporate research to improve patient care
A study published this week in the Western Journal of Nursing Research highlights preliminary data for validity of a new tool that helps measure the confidence of nurses in implementation strategies to accelerate the adoption of evidence-based practice in the name of improved patient care and safety.

The Schweitzer Fellows Program supports and trains emerging health-focused graduate and professional students in creating and carrying out service projects to address unmet community needs. The Fellows carry out an April-to-April community service project of at least 200 service hours, with at least 100 hours involving direct client contact. Fellows partner with an existing community agency in the Columbus or Athens area and have both an academic and a community-based mentor.
The National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Nursing Research (NIH/NINR) has awarded a four-year, $1.6 million R01 grant to fund the study, “Reducing Cardiovascular Risk Factors in Black Young Adults.” The grant was awarded to Janna Stephens, PhD, RN, (PI) assistant professor at The Ohio State University College of Nursing’s Martha S. Pitzer Center for Women, Children and Youth. Co-investigators from Ohio State include Bernadette Melnyk, PhD, APRN-CNP, EBP-C, FAANP, FNAP, FAAN, and Alai Tan, PhD, of the College of Nursing and Carla Miller, PhD, of the College of Public Health.
When researchers asked prospective study participants who they would like to see in videos promoting healthy lifestyle behaviors, the answer was unequivocal: They wanted to see themselves – that is, other mothers living in low-income households who were overweight or obese.
