The Martha S. Pitzer Center for Women, Children and Youth is launching a new YouTube series, "From Lab to Life," which takes viewers on a captivating journey into the world of women researchers. Through a conversational approach, this series delves deep into the professional experiences and achievements of women making groundbreaking discoveries and advancements in their respective fields. Viewers will learn about the research process -- from the initial idea to its tangible real-world application -- and discover how our pursuit of science can transform lives and communities.

Years ago while having a conversation with a friend who was pursuing her MBA, she mentioned the concept of mirror fallacy. This business concept means when you as the individual learn or discover something “new,” you immediately think you’re the only one who knows or discovered that which is “new”.

COLUMBUS, OH — The Ohio State University College of Nursing set a college record for external funding received for research by its faculty from a range of national organizations that strive to improve healthcare.

Throughout fiscal year 2020, 135 total funding proposals were submitted to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), American Cancer Society, Human Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and other external funding groups. Eighty-seven grants were awarded, totaling nearly $13 million in research funding.

On the tombstone of Fannie Lou Hamer, a leader in the Civil Rights Movement who died of complications from hypertension and breast cancer, it says “I am sick and tired of being sick and tired.” Although Mrs. Hamer’s famous quote was in the context of living under the tyranny of the South’s Jim Crow, her sentiments are salient for African American women today. Oddly enough, the twentieth century issues that Fannie Lou Hamer and other civil rights leaders fought and shed their blood for are ever present in the twenty-first century.

With the goal of improving the health of women and infants, The Ohio State University College of Nursing partnered with the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) in collaboration with ITN productions to produce a video as part of AWHONN’s Partners in Care program. The video addresses research to improve screening techniques to detect depression and anxiety in pregnant and postpartum women.

A new speaker series in the College of Nursing will provide opportunities for discussion and collaboration among the nurse scientists and researchers in the college and other health sciences colleges. Hosted by the Martha S. Pitzer Center for Women, Children and Youth (MSPCWCY), the Lean-In speaker series inspires thinking, promotes discussion and stimulates research collaboration.
