The Office of Academic Affairs at The Ohio State University awarded Christa Newtz, MSN, RN, instructor of clinical practice, the 2020 Provost’s Award for Distinguished Teaching by a Lecturer. This award annually recognizes six of Ohio State’s 3,000 instructors from across the university for their teaching excellence.
Newtz, who has taught at the College of Nursing for five years, teaches courses in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing, Community Health Nursing and Older Adult Nursing.
“It’s an absolute honor to receive an award for doing what I love at a university that I have loved for most of my life,” Newtz said.
Newtz emphasized that she focuses on building relationships and rapport with students in order to establish a safe learning environment.
“The rest falls into place after that,” Newtz said. “We have outstanding students and I strive to be better for them.”
“Christa is a phenomenal teacher who provides exemplary education and mentorship to our students,” said Bernadette Melnyk, PhD, APRN-CNP, FAANP, FNAP, FAAN, vice president for health promotion, university chief wellness officer and dean of the College of Nursing. “[She] supports them to achieve their highest level of health and well-being. She is so deserving of this distinguished award!”
