The American Cancer Society has awarded a $1.7 million, five-year grant to fund the “Intergenerational Refugee and Immigrant Cancer Screening Project.” The grant was awarded to Jennifer Kue, PhD, (PI) who is an assistant professor in the Center of Excellence in Critical and Complex Care and director of the Office of Global Innovations at The Ohio State University College of Nursing.

The National Institutes of Health/National Institute on Aging (NIH/NIA) has awarded a five-year, $2.8 million R01 grant to fund the study, “Impact of Omega-3 Fatty Acid Oral Therapy on Healing of Chronic Venous Leg Ulcers in Older Adults.” The grant was awarded to Jodi McDaniel, PhD, RN, (PI), who is an associate professor and the graduate studies committee chair at The Ohio State University College of Nursing.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – On Friday, September 28, The Ohio State University College of Nursing announced new funding for the Community Health Worker Training Program. The Franklin County commissioners will provide $180,000 of funding for three cohorts of trainees, totaling 75 newly trained community health workers. In collaboration with CelebrateOne, many community health workers will be hired to help combat the area’s high infant mortality rate.

The Rita & Alex Hillman Foundation has announced that it will award two of the eight 2018 Hillman Emergent Innovation grants to projects led by researchers from The Ohio State University College of Nursing. These grants support nursing-driven innovation for vulnerable populations.

Both projects innovate with collaboration between the College of Nursing and other Ohio State colleges. The projects are:

The National League of Nursing (NLN) announced it has named The Ohio State University College of Nursing an NLN Center of Excellence (COE). The college will be formally recognized during the Honors Convocation at the 2018 NLN Education Summit, on Friday, Sept. 14. Fifteen other nursing programs nationwide, across the academic spectrum of higher education in nursing and leading teaching hospitals and clinical sites, shared the distinction of being named NLN Centers of Excellence this year.

The College of Nursing at The Ohio State University has moved from No. 31 to No. 20 in research funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The NIH provides the largest amount of publicly funded biological research support in the country.
