Building Update

Since our ceremonial groundbreaking in December 2020, Jane E. Heminger Hall has grown by leaps and bounds

Topping Off Event

On August 5, we held our Topping Off Event to celebrate a milestone in the construction of our new 40,000-square-foot building: the placement of the last beam. Topping off, a common custom in construction, is a way of thanking and honoring everyone involved. It comes from a Scandinavian tradition that dates back to at least 700 AD and has since spread around the world. Traditionally, there is a party or gathering and a small tree is placed on the beam before it is hoisted up.

Builders, architects, donors and College of Nursing students, faculty and staff were invited to sign the beam in the weeks before the event. Instead of the traditional fir tree, the College of Nursing chose an Ohio buckeye tree. In the spirit of environmental wellness, the tree was brought back down to earth after the event and adopted by Laurel Van Dromme, MA, the College of Nursing’s liaison to the architect and general contractor.

The name of our new building

At their November meeting, The Ohio State University Board of Trustees officially approved Jane E. Heminger Hall as the name of our new building. We are so grateful to Gary and Jane Heminger for their commitment and partnership to transforming the future of health.
