Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP)
Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioners provide direct patient care in many types of settings. They work with patients to promote health and well-being. They promote health and wellness as well as diagnose and treat adolescents, adults and older adults with common conditions, illnesses or injuries. They are involved in education, research and legislative activities to promote quality healthcare.
The primary goal of the AGPCNP specialty is to prepare graduates for advanced practice nursing in a variety of clinical settings ranging from private practices, clinics, hospitals, businesses, managed care organizations and governmental agencies. Coursework, clinical experience, interprofessional collaboration and evidence-based practice skills allow students to acquire the knowledge, values and skills necessary for advanced practice nursing roles. Graduates of the specialty are eligible for certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners National Certification Board (AANP) as Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioners. Our specialty meets the nurse practitioner curriculum guidelines of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF).

Our Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner graduates enter the workforce with the skills and competencies to:

- Develop, implement and assess advanced practice nursing strategies to meet patient goals and assure quality of care

Clinical Experience
Our NP specialty provides preceptors in a wide variety of geographic locations and clinical sites throughout Ohio. Students work with nurse practitioners; family practice, internal medicine and specialty physicians; and other health professionals in ambulatory primary care and specialty clinics as well as community, long-term and inpatient settings. Clinical experience provides the precepted hours necessary for certification in Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner.
