Kimberly Arcoleo, PhD, MPH, director of the Center for Promoting Health in Infants, Children, Adolescents and Women (PHICAW) and associate professor at The Ohio State University College of Nursing, has been appointed to the editorial board of the Journal of Asthma. She is the second member from a nursing college to serve on this national editorial board; her term begins December 2012.
The aim of the Journal of Asthma is to provide an authoritative open forum on asthma and related conditions. According to the journal's website, clinical research on asthma management, critical and long-term care, preventative measures, environmental counseling and patient education are covered regularly. Journal submissions further discussions about asthma from the perspectives of clinical immunology, allergies, pulmonary physiology, psychosomatics, pharmacology and other asthma-related clinical health trends.
Arcoleo’s background is in clinical research, public health and health services research, focusing on the asthma disparities in children among various ethnic groups in different geographical locations. Her research examines how the interplay of culture, acculturation, symptom perception, illness beliefs and socio-demographic, environmental and genetic factors influences the use of controller medications and complementary and alternative medicine, parents’ healthcare seeking behaviors for their children and children’s asthma health outcomes.
Prior to her appointment at Ohio State, Arcoleo was associate professor at the Arizona State University College of Nursing and Health Innovation and director of the Master’s of Science in Clinical Research Management program.
