Research Interest(s): Health promotion, risk reduction and youth development in children and adolescents, specifically targeting interventions targeting obesity in youth residing in Appalachia. Past research interests include adolescent male sexuality and at-risk sexual behaviors as well as predictors of undergraduate nursing student success.

Joni Tornwall, clinical professor, College of Nursing, has been awarded a 2025-2026 Fulbright U.S. Scholar Award to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan to teach student-centered nursing practices at Kyrgyz State Medical Academy.

The American Society for Nutrition (ASN) has named Carolyn Gunther, PhD, RDN, LD, who serves as senior associate dean for community engagement and associate professor at The Ohio State University College of Nursing, as part of its inaugural class of “Excellence in Nutrition” Fellows.
