Exploring Pregnancy Outcomes’ Influence on Childhood Cardiovascular Health (EPIC – Heart Health). Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Coordinating Center at Duke University. National Institutes of Health Office of the Director
Jancsura, M.K. (PI), Venkatesh, K. (Mentor) Keim, S.A. (Co-mentor), Joseph, J.J. (Co-mentor), Aris, I.M. (Co-mentor), O’Shea, T.M. (Co-mentor), Santos, H.P. Jr. (Co-mentor).
U2COD023375. 2025-2027. $193,931
This proposal advances the ECHO-OIF priorities by investigating how in-utero exposure to adverse pregnancy outcomes (APO) connects to chronic adverse cardiovascular health (CVH) outcomes and investigates whether neighborhood- and individual-level food access may influence the pathway from APO exposure to poor CVH.
AI-Driven Chemotoxicity Prediction in Older Adults with Colorectal Cancer (AID-CHEMO): The Roles of Biological Aging and Geospatial Variation. Clinician-Scientists Transdisciplinary Aging Research (Clin-STAR) Coordinating Center at the American Federation for Aging Research. National Institutes of Health/National Institute on Aging
Han, C.J. (PI), Burd, C.E. (mentor), Ning, X.
(Co-mentor), Plascak, J.J. (Co-mentor), Noonan, A.M. (Co-I), Rosko, A.E. (Co-I), Tounkara, F. (Co-I), Von Ah, D. (Co-I).
U24AG065204. 2025-2026. $54,000
This study aims to examine how biological aging and geospatial variation influence chemotoxicity risk and to develop artificial intelligence/machine learning models that incorporate these markers to predict chemotoxicity in older adults with colorectal cancer.
The INSPIRE Study: Inflammasome activation as a novel signal for preeclampsia risk in early pregnancy. The Ohio State University Alumni Association Women & Philanthropy Grant
Jancsura, M.K. (PI), Gillespie, S.L. (Co-I), Mackos, A.R. (Co-I)
2025-2026. $34,450
This study aims to apply a novel functional immune responsiveness testing strategy to identify, in early pregnancy, who has altered NLRP3 inflammasome activity and is therefore at high risk for preeclampsia. This approach has the potential to hasten the development of prevention and treatment options for preeclampsia, ultimately reducing the devastating, lifelong consequences of preeclampsia.
Training in the Science of Health Development. National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Nursing Research
Pickler, R.H. (MPI), Happ, M.B. (MPI).
T32NR014225. 2025-2030. $1,811,649
This award provides support for pre- and postdoctoral research training for nurse scientists to build careers directed at understanding and improving health across the life span. The training program builds on the research strengths of the faculty at Ohio State in health development across the lifespan, following an ecobiodevelopmental and life course health development model.
Health in Partnership: Expanding Community Health Worker Impact by Connecting with Local Organizations for Greater Reach. Ohio Center for Community Health Worker Excellence
Stanford, S. (PI)
2025. $49,952
The Community Health Worker Training Program strives to reduce health disparities and increase healthcare access for underserved populations across Ohio. This funding will allow the program to continue offering essential training to students who are committed to improving health outcomes in their communities.
MODEL: Pain MOdeling Diverse Experiences and Longitudinal trajectories of pain. National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (HEAL initiative)
Punches, B. (MPI), Donneyong, M.M. (MPI), Ni, A. (MPI), Boyer, E.W. (Co-I), Brown, J.L. (Co-I), Carreiro, S. (Co-I), Failla, M.D. (Co-I), Johnson, J.A. (Co-I), Lyons, M.S. (Co-I)
RF1NS142103. 2026-2029. $5,057,591
The goal of this research is to leverage the ED setting to comprehensively characterize the full range of interindividual differences in acute pain phenotypes, optimal treatment, and trajectories of pain within a biopsychosocial and health services framework.
Examining the role of sensitivity to uncertainty on the risk for anxiety and subsequent perceived cognitive symptoms among breast cancer survivors: An exploratory longitudinal study. Oncology Nursing Foundation
Yang, Y. (PI), Tan, A. (Co-I)
2026-2027. $50,000
Findings will clarify the role of intolerance of uncertainty (IU) and the extent to which different forms of IU impact anxiety and subsequent perceived cognitive function, thereby laying the groundwork for personalized approaches to preventing and treating these symptoms in breast cancer survivors.
