College of Nursing’s online master’s in nursing program ranks #1 in the country

U.S. News & World Report also names online bachelor’s among nation’s very best

U.S. News & World Report released new rankings for online academic programs today that, for the first time, place The Ohio State University College of Nursing’s online master’s in nursing degree program at #1 in the country for 2022.

The annual rankings scored the college’s online Master of Science in Nursing program at a perfect 100/100 and marks the eighth consecutive year that the program has ranked among the nation’s top-six programs of its kind. Its Family Nurse Practitioner master’s degree specialty, the only specialty ranked for which the college has an active track, also ranked #3 in the nation this year. The master’s program places special emphasis on evidence-based practice, personal and client-centered wellness, prevention, and clinical experiences using technology including the growing area of telehealth.

“In the face of historic challenge, our world-class students, faculty, staff and preceptors continue to demonstrate passion, purpose and pride as they dream, discover and deliver the healthier world that we all desperately need,” said Bernadette Melnyk, PhD, APRN-CNP, FAANP, FNAP, FAAN, vice president for health promotion, university chief wellness officer and dean of the College of Nursing. “We so appreciate the recognition of the consistent excellence of our online academic programs, but we are even more proud of the evidence-based clinicians and healthcare leaders who graduate from our programs ready to transform health and improve lives in every community they serve throughout the world.”

The university’s online bachelor’s degrees – for which the College of Nursing’s RN to BSN program comprises the highest enrollment – also placed among the nation’s top 10 for the eighth year in a row, ranking #7 for 2022.

“We are very deliberate about the culture we set for our top-ranked online academic programming,” said Cindy Anderson, PhD, APRN-CNP, ANEF, FAHA, FNAP, FAAN, senior associate dean for academic affairs and educational innovation at the College of Nursing. “We are committed to professional teaching, engaged student learning and quality educational programs in an online space that have become that much more important in the pandemic era. That we have maintained our momentum is a testament to the students who pursue professional advancement in nursing in the name of patient care quality and safety.”

U.S. News & World Report generally conducts its annual rankings on degree-bearing programs through five main categories: Engagement, Service and Technologies, Faculty Credentials and Training, Expert Opinion and Student Excellence (not factored in bachelor’s ranking).
