Graduation and Convocation Attire
Commencement and convocation are formal ceremonies. Graduation regalia should be worn to both. Information about regalia specific to each program can be found below.
Graduation regalia for undergraduate and master’s students may be purchased through the Ohio State Bookstore.
PhD candidates and DNP and DNE degree graduates can purchase or rent graduation costumes through the Ohio State Bookstore. Pricing information and instructions to order or rent graduation regalia will be sent to anticipated graduates by the Graduate School.
- Master’s and Post-Master’s Degree Graduates

Master’s degree and Post-Master’s degree graduates wear a black robe with an gold-colored velvet stole highlighted with scarlet fabric underneath. The graduate also wears a mortarboard with a black tassel.
- PhD Degree Graduates

PhD degree graduates wear a scarlet robe with gray accents on the sleeves and a velvet panel down the front. The hood PhD graduates receive is blue on one side and red/scarlet underneath. The cap is called a doctoral tam. It has a gray tassel.
- DNP Degree Graduates

DNP degree graduates will wear a scarlet robe with gray accents on the sleeves and a velvet panel down the front. The hood is an apricot-colored velvet with a scarlet and gray interior. DNP graduates wear a black doctoral tam with a gray tassel.
- DNE Degree Graduates

DNE degree graduates will wear a scarlet robe with gray accents on the sleeves and a velvet panel down the front. The hood is an apricot-colored velvet with a scarlet and gray interior. DNE graduates wear a black doctoral tam with a gray tassel.

Undergraduates wear a black robe with a black mortarboard and an apricot colored tassel, which represents the College of Nursing.
