Honor from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine recognizes college’s long-standing commitment and impact
The Ohio State University today received its seventh consecutive Health Professions Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the country’s oldest and largest diversity-focused magazine and website in higher education.
The HEED Award recognizes sustained commitment to and excellence in diversity, equity and inclusion among institutions of higher learning. This honor comes as the American Association of Colleges of Nursing honored Ohio State and the College of Nursing with its 2022 Diversity, Inclusion and Sustainability in Nursing Education Lectureship Award for Academic Health Centers.
“We truly appreciate the recognition of our ongoing efforts to ensure an inclusive and supportive environment for all people who interact and engage with our college,” said Angela Alston, DNP, MPH, APRN-CNP, assistant clinical professor and chief diversity officer at the College of Nursing. “We are building more than a safe space in our college; we are creating a culture through which students, faculty, staff, alumni, community partners and friends can bring their best selves and thrive.”
“We have made tremendous progress in our work to create, promote and sustain our culture of inclusivity, and our commitment to continue that work is unwavering,” said Bernadette Melnyk, PhD, APRN-CNP, FAANP, FNAP, FAAN, vice president for health promotion, university chief wellness officer and dean of the College of Nursing. “I am so grateful for Dr. Alston, Rachel Muredzwa [MSW, director of equity and inclusion] and our entire team who embrace this work with passion and purpose in the name of dreaming, discovering and delivering a healthier and brighter future for all.”
In addition to the College of Nursing, The Ohio State University Colleges of Medicine, Optometry, Public Health and Veterinary Medicine also earned HEED Awards for 2022.
