INSIGHT Into Diversity recognizes college for commitment, leadership in diversity, equity and inclusion
INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the nation’s oldest and largest diversity-focused magazine and website in higher education, honored The Ohio State University College of Nursing today with its eighth consecutive Health Professions Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award.
The HEED Award recognizes institutions of higher education for their outstanding commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. The selection process includes a comprehensive and rigorous application that explores student and employee recruitment and retention, as well as leadership support of diversity and inclusion initiatives.
Among the initiatives highlighted in the College of Nursing’s application is the Summer Institute for Future Nurses, which has been active for 13 years and acquaints high school students with nursing and wellness professions.
“We take great pride in building a climate of belonging that feeds into a culture that empowers and encourages people to bring their best selves to our college,” said Angela Alston, DNP, MPH, APRN-CNP, assistant clinical professor and chief diversity officer at the College of Nursing. “This continued recognition of our work in this area motivates us even further to engage in efforts to grow and sustain an inclusive and supportive environment in which people can thrive and succeed.”
“It is incumbent upon our college to provide a welcoming, safe and supportive place for students, faculty, staff, alumni and partners to answer their calling to care,” said Karen Rose, PhD, RN, FGSA, FAAN, dean and professor at the College of Nursing. “We share our appreciation with INSIGHT Into Diversity for continuing to recognize our efforts as a national role model; our work is never done, and we promise to continue our progress in this space.”
INSIGHT Into Diversity also honored Ohio State’s Colleges of Medicine, Optometry, Pharmacy, Public Health and Veterinary Medicine with HEED Awards for 2023.
