Direct Admission Option

The HWIH major has a direct admission option for prospective students. Applicants who apply to Ohio State and indicate HWIH as their intended major will be eligible for direct admission if they meet the following criteria:

  • Admission to Ohio State Columbus Campus
  • An ACT of 22 or higher, or an SAT of 1100 or higher

Students directly admitted to the HWIH major will not be required to apply to the major during their first year. Also, students must maintain a 2.75 GPA and a C or better in the prerequisite courses to continue onto the HWIH major classes.

Students admitted to Ohio State Columbus campus that are not eligible for direct admission will be enrolled in Pre-HWIH. Students enrolled in Pre-HWIH are welcome to apply to the major between October and July of each year.

As a direct admit, you must meet the below admission requirements:

  • Completion of 45 quarter credit hours or 30 semester credit hours of college-level coursework, including prerequisites, by the end of spring quarter or semester for enrollment in the autumn semester. The four prerequisite courses must be equivalent to those offered at Ohio State.
  • A grade of C or better on all prerequisite coursework.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.75 or better on a 4.0 scale for all collegiate academic courses.

Application Process

Applicants from any major at Ohio State or students currently attending another college or university may apply while they are completing their prerequisite coursework at Ohio State or another college or university. Successful applicants are selected on the basis of their academic record and potential for success.

Application Review and Course Equivalencies:

All transfer credit will be reviewed by The Office of Professional Admissions for meeting prerequisite requirements. Each applicant is responsible for verifying that all the prerequisite courses taken (or planned) meet the College of Nursing’s requirements. With this in mind, it is important to correctly include all current and planned transfer coursework in the prerequisite summary on the HWIH application. The traditional HWIH program does not accept general (GEN), special (SPL), or technical (TECH) credit for prerequisite courses. Applicants that have been awarded GEN, SPL or TECH credit or have other deficiencies will be notified through the “To-Do List” in the Applicant Center, which is managed by the Office of Professional Admissions. The “To-Do List” will include further instructions.

Questions or concerns regarding your transfer credit should be directed to the Office of Professional Admissions at 614-292-9444. Please note the following:

  • Applicants will not be considered for admission if coursework does not meet the required direct equivalencies or if they do not meet all other admissions requirements.
  • The College of Nursing will not inform applicants of any unfulfilled prerequisite courses.

Admission Timeline

All required materials listed above must be submitted by the posted application deadline. Please allow up to five business days for the status of materials to be updated on your application status webpage. Any item still marked as incomplete by the deadline will result in your application being removed from consideration.
