Online program the second of its kind in the U.S. to earn academic accreditation
The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) has awarded its prestigious academic accreditation to The Ohio State University’s sought-after online Master of Clinical Research degree program, which is housed within the College of Nursing.
This is only the second such program across the United States to earn this accreditation.
“There is an urgent national need in the biopharmaceutical and healthcare research industries for clinical research professionals that is outpacing the number of qualified and well-prepared professionals to fill the roles,” said Carolynn Thomas Jones, DNP, MSPH, RN, FAAN, program director for the Master of Clinical Research. “This selective accreditation from CAAHEP further highlights our program’s commitment to ensure that student outcomes support this pipeline through education of capable and credentialed graduates.”
In alignment with the requirements for accreditation, the program curriculum includes knowledge, skills and attitude competencies outlined by the Joint Task Force (JTF) for Clinical Trial Competency and the standards adopted by the Consortium on Accreditation of Academic Clinical Research Programs and the Commission on Accreditation of Academic Programs in Clinical Research.
The Master of Clinical Research is easily accessible, as courses are offered 100% online and asynchronously with start dates every semester, allowing working professionals to continue in their careers. While many of the program’s students are currently working in clinical research, the program is open to prospective students with any undergraduate degree. Applied course deliverables challenge students to work to expand their experience levels and competency domains.
Originally developed in 2014 as one of Ohio State’s first online degree programs, the interdisciplinary program has evolved to include partnerships among the Colleges of Nursing Medicine, Pharmacy and Public Health.
The College of Nursing also offers a partner Clinical Research Management certificate.
The Clinical Research program at The Ohio State University is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (http://www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Academic Programs in Clinical Research (CAAPCR).
