Jane E. Heminger Hall nears its grand opening
by Phil Saken
The roof has been raised. The walls are up. The floors are poured.
This summer, the doors will open on the College of Nursing’s new Jane E. Heminger Hall.
Construction crews are hard at work in the final phase of transforming the corner of Neil and 9th Avenues into a new gateway to The Ohio State University’s health science campus. Our new classrooms, seminar rooms, demonstration kitchen and permanent innovation space are receiving finishing touches as we prepare to welcome students, faculty, staff and partners to dream, discover and deliver together. Look through the glass of the three-story Atrium and you can see the newly-poured radiant heat flooring, elliptical ramps that provide walkways in the air from Newton Hall to Jane E. Heminger Hall and the grand three-story staircase designed with wellness in mind.
In February, Ohio State’s Board of Trustees approved the naming of several spaces within Jane E. Heminger Hall in recognition of donors’ generous contributions and their trust in the college’s work to transform the future of health for generations to come:
- The Martha S. Pitzer Center for Women, Children and Youth’s new offices
- The Connie Hahn Sharpe and Gary Sharpe Innovation Center
- The Barbara and Lawrence Berger Demonstration Nutrition Kitchen
- The Nursing Class of 1966 Seminar Room
“We are so grateful to our donors, architects and contractors for creating a space that we will fill with new education, innovation, wellness and research that will benefit us all," said Laurel Van Dromme, MA, chief of strategic partnerships and special projects for the College of Nursing.
“The further the construction moves along toward the completion of Jane E. Heminger Hall this summer, the more excited I get about our students, faculty and staff using new classrooms, as well as many new conference rooms and offices.”
