Margaret Graham, PhD, RN, FNP, PNP, associate dean for advanced practice and community partnerships and associate professor at The Ohio State University, has received the 2013 American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) Ohio State Award for Excellence.
Graham is active at the state level in moving legislation and policies forward that will allow advanced practice nurses (APN) to provide the citizens of Ohio greater access to care. Her interests include health policy issues related to APNs, health promotion and disease prevention and greater access to graduate education through online delivery methods.
An expert nurse practitioner, Graham has educated students on nursing and health policy for more than 30 years. She teaches at the graduate level and practices one day a week with the Ohio State Department of Family Medicine. She is certified as both a family and pediatric nurse practitioner.
This annual honor recognizes outstanding achievements by nurse practitioners and nurse practitioner advocates. The AANP State Award for Excellence is given annually to an nurse practitioner in each state who has demonstrated excellence in clinical practice. The Advocate State Award for Excellence is given annually to an individual in each state who has made a significant contribution toward increasing awareness and acceptance of nurse practitioners. Examples of past recipients have been physicians, legislators, educators and more. Nurse practitioners are also eligible for the advocate award for non-clinical practice initiatives related to leadership, precepting, policy, politics, research, education or community affairs. The awards are presented throughout the year in each state, and winners are recognized during the AANP National Conference.
