Faculty create online module to support nurse practitioner education
Freely available online resource is designed to help nurse practitioner educators prepare students for success in clinical settings
Three College of Nursing faculty members developed an interactive online module to support advanced practice nursing students’ success in the clinical learning environment.
The Student Success and Professionalism in the Clinical Environment resource was created by by Heidi Bobek, DNP, APRN-CNP; Courtney DuBois Shihabuddin, DNP, APRN-CNP; and Elizabeth Sharpe, DNP, APRN-CNP, FAANP, FNAP, FAAN.
The interactive module addresses key areas of professionalism including clinical readiness, professional attire, email etiquette, social media conduct, communication, accountability and strategies for successful learning.
The faculty developed the resource to strengthen students’ clinical preparation and promote the professional behaviors expected in complex healthcare environments. The materials are available for faculty and programs seeking practical tools to support clinical readiness and professionalism education and may be used to supplement clinical orientation, reinforce program expectations or support broader professionalism initiatives.
The module is based on the faculty members’ published work, “Promoting Professionalism for Nurse Practitioner Students for Clinical Success,” The open-access article describes the development and evaluation of the interactive learning module and highlights its role in enhancing student awareness of professionalism expectations.
The faculty encourage nurse practitioner educators and academic programs to explore the module and adapt its resources to meet their own learners’ and clinical partners’ needs.
