Welcome Week: Hezekiah Tillison leads through service
For third-year BSN student and Morrill Scholar Hezekiah Tillison of Cleveland, Ohio, nursing is part of a larger commitment to leadership and service.
As part of our Welcome Week series, we’re getting to know the students who make up the Buckeye nursing community.
Tillison is involved in the Undergraduate Black Caucus within the Undergraduate Student Government and Nursing Students of Color. He also works as a patient care assistant at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
Through his experiences at Ohio State, Tillison has developed skills that he carries into his leadership and work.
“I’m able to use some of the skills that I get from the College of Nursing, like communication and adaptability,” he said.
His commitment to leadership began in high school, when he helped found Bridges, a club focused on strengthening relationships between students and staff to make the school atmosphere a safer place.
At the College of Nursing, Tillison has also found a strong sense of community among his classmates.
“When I found out I got in, it was a huge deal for me,” he said. “I dropped to my knees and cried. It’s a privilege.”
Today, he’s making the most of that opportunity in the classroom, in his community and through his continued commitment to serving others.
