Ohio State nursing faculty expert featured on neurocritical care podcast
Closing the gap between evidence and practice
Molly McNett, PhD, RN, CNRN, FNCS, FAAN, The Ohio State University College of Nursing associate dean for evidence-based practice and implementation science, was recently interviewed on the Neurocritical Care Society (NCS) Podcast Perspectives series.
McNett discussed her commitment to closing the gap between research evidence and clinical practice. She described how observing inconsistencies between published evidence and routine care inspired her work in research, clinical guideline development and implementation science.
McNett highlighted the growing role of implementation science in helping health care organizations adopt and sustain evidence-based practices. She explained that implementation science differs from quality improvement by focusing on the strategies that support successful practice change within real-world clinical environments.
One example discussed was fall-prevention initiatives, illustrating how tailored approaches can improve the adoption of best practices, as opposed to general approaches that can cause unintended ripple effects like ignoring alarms.
A Fellow of both NCS and the American Academy of Nursing, McNett also emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and mentorship in advancing nursing research.
Through her leadership in neurocritical care research and implementation science, McNett continues to advance evidence-based care and strengthen the impact of nursing scholarship at Ohio State and beyond.
