Fostering global collaboration and scholarly exchange in nursing science, The Ohio State University College of Nursing collaborated with nursing faculty in three other countries to launch the first Online International Nursing Conference for Doctoral Students in April 2026.

Faculty and students from the college’s Doctor of Nursing Education (DNE), Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs, along with doctoral students from Ulster University in the United Kingdom, the University of South Bohemia in the Czech Republic and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University in Taiwan, shared nursing research and evidence-based practices in healthcare and education.

At Ohio State, collaboration is essential to solving complex healthcare challenges, and we empower our students to learn and grow through exposure to a diverse range of communities, perspectives and experiences. In this first-of-its-kind conference, students from three continents across the globe gathered to share research, culture and new ideas for improving healthcare worldwide.

“Enthusiasm was high among doctoral students for engaging in a global scholarly experience that reflects the level of vision and leadership required to advance nursing worldwide. At a time when many of our students are balancing full-time work and significant personal responsibilities, this conference was intentionally designed to meet them where they are while still holding them to the expectations of global doctoral scholarship. Through scholarly exchange, students learned from one another’s projects, gained insight into their peers’ cultural contexts and developed a deeper understanding of what it means to be a doctoral nursing student in different countries. Bringing the world to them created space for shared learning, meaningful dialogue and the confidence that their work belongs in international conversations,” said Tara King, PhD, RN, DNE program director at The Ohio State University College of Nursing, and founding conference chair.

The college launched the first-of-its-kind DNE program in the United States in August 2022. The program offers two specializations: Academic Nursing Education and Nursing Professional Development.
