Biography
Dr. James Colquitt brings extensive leadership in healthcare education, clinical simulation and competency-based program design to his role as assistant dean of simulation at The Ohio State University College of Nursing. His work utilizes educational technology and interactive creativity to build highly realistic simulation environments. As an administrative leader, Dr. Colquitt is deeply committed to a people-first philosophy — actively empowering educators, removing systemic obstacles from their paths, and fostering an environment where colleagues and students realize their full potential.
Prior to joining Ohio State, he served as the associate dean for research and clinical simulation at the Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine at The Chicago School, and assistant dean for simulation at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Louisiana. His active research agenda centers on game-based medical education platforms, experiential learning and innovative clinical training networks. Nationally, serves as a senior educator for the American College of Surgeons’ Advanced Trauma Life Support program and serves as secretary of the Board for the North American Simulation and Gaming Association.
Dr. Colquitt earned his PhD in Workforce Education from the University of Georgia and holds a Master of Education in Instructional Technology from Georgia College and State University, alongside a Bachelor of Science in Cardiopulmonary Science from Georgia State University. Reflecting his deep roots in clinical practice and healthcare quality, Dr. Colquitt is a Registered Respiratory Therapist with an Adult Critical Care Specialist (RRT-ACCS) credential, and holds dual certifications as a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) and Operations Specialist (CHSOS). Additionally, he is a trained Six Sigma Black and a TeamSTEPPS® Master Trainer, frequently integrating systematic safety frameworks into his instructional design. He is actively training to use improv in nurse and medical education.
