The Dementia Experience: Building Empathy in Practice Through Simulation
The Dementia Experience: Building Empathy in Practice Through Simulation is a training developed by the Golden Buckeye Center for Dementia Caregiving. This is a free, 60-minute training session held in person at the Golden Buckeye Center. Education is paired with simulation equipment to facilitate deeper empathy, understanding and insight into the daily experiences of individuals living with dementia by simulating common symptoms. The sessions are open to the public and may benefit anyone, including family, friends and professionals.
During this informative and interactive session, participants will:
- learn the key characteristics of dementia
- identify resources to support caregivers
- learn communication techniques for interacting with individuals living with dementia
- experience the sensory, cognitive and functional changes commonly faced by people living with dementia
