Evidence-based health care: the care you want, but might not be getting

A study led by Dr. Bernadette Melnyk surveyed chief nurses to determine how evidence-based practice (EBP) ranks as a priority in their hospitals. Numerous studies support that EBP results in high quality care and lower costs, yet more than half of those surveyed said their organizations use EBP “somewhat” or “not at all” with 30-40 percent of hospitals in the study reporting poor scores on key performance measures. The study points to a disconnect among leaders as one root issue.

Innovative health program reduces depression, unhealthy weights in teens

New study reports that 12 months after completing the COPE Healthy Lifestyles TEEN Program, students had markedly lower body mass index than students who received a more standard health curriculum. Additionally, COPE teens who began the program with extremely elevated depression had symptoms in the normal range after 12 months.
