I am excited to debut the first edition of the College of Nursing's e-newsletter. We hope that it will serve as a great way to connect and engage with our alumni and friends - both near and far - and keep you all up-to-date on all of the great things happening at our awesome college. From event photos and announcements, to college news and accolades, to healthy tips for living well, you'll find it all here! Speaking of Advancement, I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce our new director of development, Katy Trombitas, who joined our college in April from the OhioHealth Foundation. Online programs rank among best for veterans

The College of Nursing's online programs are ranked among the country's best for veterans, according to U.S. News and World Report. The college tied for 6th in online graduate nursing programs and tied for 7th for online bachelor's degrees, which includes the RN to BSN program. These rankings follow previous U.S. News top placements for the college's online programs and master's program.

BHAC National Summit a great success

The Building Healthy Academic Communities Second National Summit brought together institutions from across the country to share best practices on improving health and wellness. Participants documented their experience online using the hashtag #BHAC2015. Read the Storify for the social media highlights.

Children's mental health awareness

In honor of May being Children's National Mental Health Awareness Month, Dr. Bern Melnyk led a discussion on depression and anxiety in children and teens. The talk focused on strategies for prevention, identifying the warning signs and seeking help. The session was standing-room only, with dozens more attending via live stream. Partnership aims to improve patient care

The Ohio State University College of Nursing and medical device company Welch Allyn have joined forces on new research aimed at improving the delivery of patient care. Read more.

New grads join alumni family

On May 8, the college officially welcomed 504 new graduates to its Buckeye family. Congratulations to all of our graduates! View photos from our Convocation ceremony on Flickr.

"But for Ohio State" Campaign goal met

The college received special recognition from President Michael Drake at the "But for Ohio State" Campaign Coordinating Committee Meeting for early completion of our campaign fundraising goal. Jim and Mary Hamilton accepted the award. The campaign has raised more than $12 million to support student scholarships, professorships, research and innovation in nursing. Special thanks to our dedicated campaign committee, including Jim and Mary Hamilton (co-chairs), C. John and FloAnn Easton, Gary and Connie Sharpe, and Ralph and Jennifer Watts.

Anderson inducted into Academy of Nursing Education

The college is honored to announce that faculty Cindy Anderson has been named fellow by the National League for Nursing's Academy of Nursing Education. Dr. Anderson has been praised for her innovative teaching and learning strategies. Read more.

CON student receives Denman Award

Congratulations to student Anelise Zamarripa-Zoucha who earned third place in the 2015 Denman Award showcase! She was among more than 600 undergraduates who presented their outstanding research at this year's forum. Anelise's research was titled "Evaluation of Ohio State University nursing student's informatics competency using an adapted measurement tool."

Professionally, I am most proud of my world-class education and degrees obtained from Ohio State and the opportunities they have afforded me thus far in my career. In the past 20 years, I have had the amazing opportunity to work with interdisciplinary rehabilitation teams, physicians, nurses and executives across the country. I have been able to combine my advanced practice nursing knowledge with my administrative finance and operational skills to be an effective advocate for quality patient care delivery.

Interesting fact: I love to cook and find enjoyment, and most importantly, relaxation in the kitchen. This is my best stress reliever, especially when done with wine tasting and pairing.

Incorporate wellness in the workplace

The majority of a person’s waking hours are spent at work, so it’s an ideal setting for incorporating wellness into our daily lives. Ohio State is doing just that. Read more about June Employee Wellness Month.

Regional Alumni Events

We're headed to your town! This summer, Dean Bern Melnyk and Nursing Alumni Society volunteers will travel across Ohio to visit alumni in the following cities: Cincinnati (July 7), Toledo (July 9), and Cleveland (July 14). Through these trips, we hope to strengthen alumni ties to the college and provide updates on our new programs and initiatives.
