Message from the Dean and Vice President for Health Promotion
Homecoming is a time of great excitement and joy as we welcome home our extended family of alumni and hear about their dreams and successes. Newton Hall fills with familiar faces, old friends embrace, and children play around them—some destined to be our future students. For many of us, Homecoming is a reminder of why we love our jobs: we get to serve the brightest students in the land, who go on to make amazing contributions to healthcare and literally save lives every day! This year, the class of ‘68’s 50th reunion was capped with a victory against Indiana on a beautiful fall day, but every day, our alumni are winners as they transform the lives of others. Thanks to you, our college is thriving, too; see my State of the College address from Homecoming to hear about our many successes. My heartfelt thanks to all of you who made the trip to Columbus for Homecoming, and for the rest of you who hold Ohio State dear to your hearts, no matter how far away you might be.
We have so much to be thrilled about and proud of this fall at the College of Nursing. Our outstanding research faculty have been awarded over $9 million in grants, from the NIH, the American Cancer Society, the Hillman Foundation, and more. We celebrated the landmark gift from the family of Dr. Martha S. Pitzer with a champagne reception in Newton Hall, and held the inaugural National Summit on Promoting Well-being and Resilience in Healthcare Providers to work toward real solutions to the current epidemic of workplace burnout. Also, we announced new funding that will provide paid training and jobs for community health workers right here in Franklin County. You can read more about these exciting events below.
Remember, October is breast cancer awareness month. Be sure to receive regular screenings. And as the weather cools off, remember to keep getting your steps in – see my Buckeye Wellness Tip below for strategies. Wishing you great health and hearts full of joy this season. Go Bucks!
Fondly,
