Technology Services for Collaborators

The following list of services is provided to researchers and external collaborators, including students and content developers in the Office of Continuing Education. The College of Nursing IT Support is pleased to support those working with our faculty and college on projects, please ask your supporting faculty or administrator to meet with us so that we are aware of your needs.

 

Research Support

The college offers the following services that are used frequently by research projects and teams at the college.

Databases

Databases can be created for research projects or administrative purposes and can utilize data from the Student Information System, the University’s Operational Data Store or other college databases as data sources.

  • Most college databases utilize SQL Servers to store the data and Web Applications as a front end or query interface.
  • ScriptCase is a toolkit utilized to create web-facing databases and front ends for databases
  • Query Development and Reporting can be customized using Pentaho by the database developer to meet the needs of database users and researchers
Dedicated Servers

The college supports and hosts a dedicated array of research servers that assist in data processing, aggregation and collection.

Secure Cloud Storage

Hosted on secure and internal servers, the college has its own storage system that allows a seamless transition of data from mobile devices to desktops under the security of the college's network and encryption.

Secure Document Management

Hosted on secure and internal servers, the college has its own document management system that provides versioning, backup and legacy support all protected by the college's network and encryption.

Poster Printing

The College of Nursing IT Department funds poster printing for College of Nursing faculty. Posters are typically sized 48” wide by 36” tall. We request two business days to process and print posters, see the Post Resources link below for additional information and submission details.

SharePoint

SharePoint is the software we use for the College of Nursing Intranet and StudentWeb portals. SharePoint facilitates the sharing of documents and has collaboration features that make it easy to manage document revisions when working in a team.

  • Document management features include the ability to collect and share documents with a team chosen by the creator of a site. This can be used to share documents within an area of the college or with a project-specific team.
  • Collaboration features include the ability to have discussions, e-mail and create wikis and blogs online. These features make it easy to collect and share information.
  • Custom workflows for SharePoint can assist you in automating processes by allowing you to create custom forms with custom routing decision support logic.
Survey Software

Survey software is an important tool for researchers, teachers, doctoral students and staff. To meet this need we have a secure, hosted system called Qualtrics.

  • Qualtrics Survey software is utilized as a data collection and survey tool. It supports a variety of questions types including CSV, SPSS and webpage-based report generation. Qualtrics has been utilized in numerous research programs due to its due to its ease of use and analytical flexibility.
Webinar

The College supports multiple webinar technologies for meetings and web-based conferencing. Either a headset (VOIP) or teleconference line can be utilized for audio and any application, presentations or a video stream can be shared in addition to audio.

Support for Centers and Outreach

The following list of services is provided to those collaborating with our centers or outreach efforts by partnering with faculty and staff of the College of Nursing. Services are dependent upon the nature and type of these collaborations, some will require cost share. Ask your College of Nursing partner to contact the IT Department for a needs assessment in the planning stages of your collaboration.

Email

The College of Nursing uses the University Email System

  • The email service supports synchronization allowing iPhone and Android phones to synchronize calendars, e-mail and contacts.
  • Custom email addresses for projects can be created
