The College of Nursing Alumni Society Mentorship Program was started by nurses, for nurses. Our purpose is to provide an opportunity for interaction between students or young alumni with an alumni mentor. Nursing students and new graduates face many challenges, and we wanted to offer support to the nursing leaders of tomorrow.
Mentees are sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate-level students or first year recent graduates from the College of Nursing who benefit from the support and guidance of their mentor. Participation in the program is voluntary — it is not a requirement for class.
Any alumna/nus from the College of Nursing can be a mentor. A mentor is a supporter, motivator, resource and coach. The mentor gains satisfaction from helping the mentee grow and reach his or her full potential. Our goal is to pair the mentor with student(s) who are interested in his or her area of expertise.
Special note for first-year graduates: First-year graduate students have the opportunity to participate in the program as either a mentee or a mentor based on his/her personal preferences and needs. You will have the opportunity to select your preference when completing our survey.
We understand that life is busy with work, school, family and other commitments. This program is designed to be flexible to meet the needs of the mentor and mentee. The mentor and mentee decide how often they would like to “meet” and if their interaction will be through email, phone or in person. Successful relationships require both parties to be open-minded, respectful and maintain clearly set expectations.
We hope that mentors and mentees will be able to attend a kick-off event in the fall and a closing event at the end of spring semester. Throughout the year, you will receive invitations to attend student-alumni programming at the college- you can attend these events as your schedule allows.
