  • Why are you seeking advanced education in the DNP program at this time in your career?

  • What are your professional and personal attributes and how will these attributes contribute to your success in the DNP program and the future career you envision?
  • What is the anticipated focus of your DNP final project, and why is this an important issue to address in your area of expertise in nursing?

Consideration will be given to both the quality of your writing and the congruence between your stated goals and those of our program.

6. Online interview

You are required to complete and interview through an online portal called HireVue, during which you will be recorded answering a brief selection of questions regarding your interests and goals in the field of nursing and the DNP program. This interview can be recorded at any time. However, we ask that you do so only after you have completed and submitted an application. Further details, instructions, and links to the online portal can be found here.

7. Three letters of recommendation

During the application you will be asked to provide the names and email addresses of 3 recommenders. Once the application is submitted, an email will be automatically generated and sent to your recommenders with a link and further instruction on how to submit their letters of recommendation. We encourage you to submit your application far in advance of the deadline so that your recommenders have ample time to upload their letters.

Letters of recommendation should be submitted from individuals who are familiar with your academic ability, professional experience and potential to succeed in the highest level of nursing practice. We suggest providing your recommenders with information on the degree and specialty to which you are applying and with a copy of your purpose and goals statement. Ask that they address your potential for success in a rigorous graduate program and what attributes and experiences they feel will allow you to excel as an advanced practice nurse in your chosen specialty. Finally, make them aware of the submission process and the application deadline by which they must submit their letters.

8. Supervisor's letter of support

The supervisor’s letter of support is a separate, additional letter required from the applicant's supervisor. The letter should address the level of the supervisor's support for the applicant's completion of DNP study, the expansion of the applicant's practice role beyond his or her current level of expertise and responsibility, and conduct of the final project. If the supervisor is providing a letter of recommendation as well, please ask that a separate letter addressing his or her level of support be submitted. This letter of support can be provided to the applicant by the supervisor and submitted at the time of application or after by way of the Admissions Uploader.

If you are currently completing your BSN, we will not require to submit a supervisor’s letter of support. Please email nursing@osu.edu after your application has been submitted to request these items be waived from your requirements.
