As Chief of Strategic Partnerships and Special Projects, Laurel builds relationships to advance the College of Nursing and the university’s health and wellness efforts at the local, state, national and international levels. Through this work, she enables students, faculty and staff to have ever greater influence on the education, research and business of nursing and health and wellness. Laurel has experience managing complex and long-standing relationships and projects including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Launching and managing partnerships with national organizations such as the Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease, the Million Hearts® initiative and by extension the National Forum for Heart Disease & Stroke Prevention and more. 
  • Managing multiple grant-funded projects to produce a website and 10 videos on stress reduction, and self-paced, online versions of the MINDSTRONG and MINDBODYSTRONG programs.
  • Serving as project liaison from design through construction and application for WELLv2-certification with architects, the contractor and multiple university offices for Jane E. Heminger Hall, a $30.7M project for the College of Nursing with new classrooms, offices and meeting spaces, plus major renovation of Newton Hall's first floor to create the Center for Well-being and Prevention with dedicated offices for the Office of the Chief Wellness Officer team, renovated classrooms and more.

A proud graduate of The Ohio State University, Laurel was also a Fulbright Scholar at Justus Liebig Universitaet Giessen in Germany and earned her master’s degree at UCLA. She has worked with Dean Melnyk for 18 years at Arizona State University (2005-2011) and Ohio State (2011 – present).
