The Cameos of Caring program was introduced to central Ohio in 2004. The goals of Cameos of Caring program are:
  • Honor outstanding nurses for their dedication to quality patient care.
  • Increase public awareness of the nursing profession by highlighting its career rewards.
  • Inspire nurses to increase their positive impact on patient care and to continue to advance their careers in a variety of ways.
  • Recruit a new generation of nurses to help offset the current nursing shortage.

In 2007, over 500 persons, representing virtually all major health care agencies in central Ohio, attended the annual black-tie optional awards gala. A post party celebration took place immediately following the gala and offered a DJ, cash bar, and plenty of dancing to celebrate the accomplishments of the awardees.

To date, 104 nurses have received the prestigious Cameos of Caring award in Central Ohio. Proceeds from the gala are contributed to the Cameos of Caring Endowed Nursing Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships for nurses who wish to advance their careers through education. In 2007, two Cameos of Caring scholarships were awarded.

The Cameos of Caring program is an important way to honor outstanding nurses and increase the visibility of their contributions to health care. It plays a vital role in the recruitment and retention of excellent nurses at a time when they are desperately needed, and also helps provide financial support to nurses who are continuing their education.

The 5th Annual Cameos of Caring Awards Gala is planned for Saturday, October 18, 2008 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in downtown Columbus.
